Kerkyra

A helpful guide to Kerkyra in Corfu

What's Kerkyra Like

Old Fortress Corfu

For many years the island was dominated by the Venetians and their influence is obvious in the architecture of Kerkyra, The maze like cobbled streets and the arches of The Liston are reminiscent of St Marks square and the surrounding streets in Venice. It’s very different to most Greek islands and that’s what makes it special.

Kerkyras old town became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2007, it’s a beautiful place and well worth taking a trip to if you can. Within the old town there are a number of places to indulge in a bit of people watching. Pull up a seat at one of the many bars or cafes and simply watch the world go by with a nice local wine or beer.

Kerkyra caters to those that want to experience a bit of history as well as a wealth or amenities right on the door step. You wont find many large, all inclusive hotels in the main town but there is still plenty of accommodation available. It’s probably not ideal for kids as there isn’t that much to keep them entertained but for those that like to experience the culture of the Greek island then it’s perfect.

Within the old and new quarters you’ll find everything you need, from souvenir shops to historical sites, there's bakeries, supermarkets, car hire outlets and a handful of cash machines dotted around too.

If you stay here or simply visit for a day or two you’re sure to have a memorable time and get some superb photos along the way.
